Baroque by Candlelight in Armadale: A Wonderful Concert

Baroque by Candlelight with Perth Chamber Orchestra, held St. Matthew’s church in Armadale on May 6th, was a wonderful concert!

The evening concert was sold out, and premium ticket holders were lucky enough to attend a pre-concert function, hosted by PSO Executive Director Bourby Webster and musicians Paul Wright, Jamie Oehlers and Sophie Curtis. Guests absolutely loved hearing an insight into the Baroque era, the differences in how  Baroque music is performed and how one of Australia’s leading jazz saxophonists uses Bach’s music to warm up before gigs!

One highlight of the concert was award winning jazz saxophonist Jamie Oehlers improvising on Bach’s famous ‘Air on a G String’ as he walked through the centre aisle, joining the orchestra onstage for a special collaboration. Other highlights included a beautiful solo from cellist Sophie Curtis and vocalist Veronique Willing. Jasmin Parkinson-Stewart made her PCO solo debut, performing alongside her teacher (and PCO Concertmaster) Paul Wright in the ever popular ‘Bach Double’.

A pre-concert function in the Disctrict Hall, hosted by City of Armadale and catered by Academy Cafe, where patrons could view the incredible art, featured in the Minnawarra Arts Festival.

We’d like to extend our gratitude to all involved, our volunteers without whom our concerts would not be possible, and especially our Presenting Partner Seasons Funeral Homes, Concert Partner City of Armadale and Event Partner Millbrook Winery.  Special thanks also go to Concert Patron John Christmass and our team of smiley volunteers (particularly those from the Rotary of Armadale and Classic Sounds Orchestra).

We look forward to returning to Armadale again!
