Get to know PSO!
13 July - 29 July 2016
Beginning Wednesday July 13, Perth Symphony is working with media partner Seven West Media to raise awareness about Perth Symphony in the wider community.
“It’s not easy to let people know who we are and what we do – or that we even exist as we’re still fairly new – so we are working with The West Australian newspaper to run a campaign until the end of July that lets people know a little more. We want to get people interested in us and our people with the hope more Western Australians will want to sign up to find out more”
Bourby Webster, Executive Director
The campaign focuses on our people – who make the orchestra what it is – and reveal what makes PSO special. Since inception we’ve wanted to excite and inspire new and existing audiences to fall in love with music and the symphony. So we’ve looked at every element of our performances to see what we can do to make it as appealing and memorable as we can. The campaign tries to communicate the message that we’re not what you might expect, that we challenge traditions and break boundaries in the way we present concerts.
The campaign has a clear goal of piquing the interest of Western Australians so they want to find out more. Signing up to the Perth Symphony newsletter allows us to keep patrons informed of the exciting concerts and events we have coming up over the next few months and through the summer. Perth Symphony’s motto is ‘music for everyone’ as the orchestra boasts a diverse and exciting program.
One of our most innovative productions is the Perth Chamber Orchestra’s (Perth Symphony’s little sister) acclaimed ‘Heritage Series’ concerts. Featuring classical music programs, the concerts are a full sensory experience aiming to hit all five senses throughout the performance. Theatrical elements including actors in full costume, food and wine are carefully selected to complement the music, and perhaps are an extra incentive to those new to classical music. The concerts sell out and have received rave reviews from classical music fans and new patrons alike. You can read more about the next instalment: Bach by Candlelight HERE.
The orchestra’s innovative and collaborative PLAY WITH US education program, our “DISCOVER’ community concerts program, and much more are all ways in which we encourage people to engage with us. We perform music from all genres, and one of the things we love is performing with international artists including John Farnham, Olivia Newton-John, Diana Krall and Lisa McCune, playing the songs everyone knows and loves! When possible, Artistic Director Jessica Gethin has skillfully chosen a piece of classical repertoire to insert into contemporary programs which lets the orchestra shine, and it’s always so rewarding to hear the audience’s reaction to an unexpected classical piece, especially those who have never had the opportunity to see an orchestra perform live before.
We love hearing feedback so if you like our campaign, please get in touch!
