Ben Elton

Story 08

Ben Elton

September 4 & 5, 2026

There's the comedy the world knows. And then there's the love story that brought him here.

From The Young Ones and Blackadder to Mr. Bean and We Will Rock You, Ben Elton helped shape a generation of comedy with razor-sharp satire, political bite and fearless humour. But beyond the public persona lies the lesser-known story of a British provocateur who crossed the world and found home in Western Australia.

Perth Symphony presents a dynamic musical portrait of Ben Elton's journey from Britain's alternative comedy revolution to one of WA's most celebrated adopted creatives. Featuring trio vocals, piano, rhythm section, strings and brass, the performance blends storytelling with music from artists including Elvis Presley, The Beatles, The Proclaimers, The Specials and Noël Coward, with live narration by acclaimed comedian Sam Longley.

Dennis Lillee

Story 09

Dennis Lillee

November 6 & 7, 2026

Grit. Determination. Unmistakable swagger. A never-say-die spirit. One of the greatest fast bowlers in cricket history — the story of Dennis Lillee, narrated by fellow Australian legend, Adam Gilchrist.

But before the packed stadiums, Ashes heroics and world records, there was a young boy in suburban WA bowling cricket balls through backyards, hallways and neighbourhood streets; dreaming big and backing himself against the odds.

More than a story of sporting greatness, this is the story of a proud West Aussie — a sandgroper's journey from suburban WA to the world stage, driven by resilience, determination, and a relentless will to win that made him one of cricket's most feared competitors of all time. Through powerful orchestral storytelling and iconic sporting soundtracks, Perth Symphony reveals the man behind the legend.
